Château Carbonnieux

Château Carbonnieux is one of the oldest properties in Bordeaux, with a history dating back to 1234 when the winery was acquired by the Carbonnieux family. Originally, the grapes were cultivated for the production of religious wines. Over the years, especially around 1700, the property gained popularity, even being visited by Thomas Jefferson during his stay in Bordeaux. Located in Pessac-Léognan, Château Carbonnieux covers a vast area of 170 hectares, with 100 hectares dedicated to vineyard cultivation. The plantings are almost equally divided between red and white wines, with 55 hectares for red wine and 45 hectares for white wine. The composition of the vines for red wines includes 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. This diversity of grape varieties allows Château Carbonnieux to produce high-quality wines, recognized for their elegance and complexity, solidifying its position as one of the icons of the Bordeaux region.
